![]() Not every nurse wants to become a doctor, but the thought of pursuing an advanced degree is attractive. As a happy NP who has worked in primary care for many years I would like to add my two cents: I appreciate the non-arrogant helpful posts, and the advice Pamela gave Ethan, as it applies to me. Our curriculum has always mirrored the medical model albeit with less depth given the shortened time line of PA training. Now they are bestowing upon themselves the DNP moniker bestowing because the nursing schools decide on the curriculum and just like school teachers, heaven forbid you questing the veracity of their curriculum because, again, the wrath of the entire nursing profession will rain down on anyone who questions them. ![]() And if we cant help them, we refer to someone who can (bc we are taught in our little, insignificant NP curricula) to stay in our lane. As background, Ive been a nurse for over 30 years and a NP for over 23 of those years. You will really need to keep up informed of your decision. NPs are not on 80-120 hour shifts during training. This is advice to one person based on his mental health, finances, desire to start a family soon, etc. You have to look closely and carefully at the schools and training programs. He asks questions and more importantly, he listens. I sat down today and wrote a short piece about my career and the things I learned in my journey. ![]() Wible to be supportive of NPs have EVER worn a US Military uniform? And will keep you updated! I have had PAs tell me PA school is likely just as intense/competitive as medical school, it is just that it is 2 years instead of 4, and I believe them.
